The Economic Diplomacy of India in Africa

Abstract:

Ekonomická diplomacie je prostředkem státu pro prosazení ekonomických zájmů, dosažení cílů zahraniční politiky a pro podporu hospodářského růstu země. Cílem této práce je prostřednictvím analýzy zahraniční politiky a ekonomické diplomacie Indie postihnout jejich změny, ke kterým došlo ve vztahu k africkému kontinentu. Hlavní důraz přitom bude kladen na proměnu zahraniční politiky a ekonomické diplomacie Indie v Africe nástupem současného premiéra Naréndry Módího v porovnání s minulým uspořádáním a strategií zahraniční politiky Manmohana Singha. Podstatné bude zároveň určení závislosti ekonomické diplomacie na konkrétní zahraniční politice země. Indie se snaží o rozvoj této disciplíny zejména od roku 1991 – to souvisí s rozpadem Sovětského svazu a nutností přeorientovat zahraniční politiku. Dalším mezníkem pro reorientaci ekonomické diplomacie Indie byla zahraniční politika Manmohana Singha a aktuální zahraniční politika Naréndry Módího. První kapitola práce se pro tyto účely věnuje teoreticko-metodologickým východiskům a ekonomické diplomacii rozvojových zemí. Druhá kapitola je zaměřena na ekonomickou situaci v Indii. Třetí kapitola charakterizuje vývoj zahraniční politiky a ekonomické diplomacie Indie. Poslední kapitola charakterizuje ekonomickou diplomacii Indie v Africe až po současnost.

Abstract:

Economic diplomacy is a means of the state to promote its economic interests, achieve foreign policy goals, and promote economic growth of the country. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the changes of India's foreign policy and economic diplomacy in Africa. The main emphasis is on the transformation of India's foreign policy and economic diplomacy towards Africa between the governments led by the Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Manmohan Singh. The goal is to also determine the dependence of economic diplomacy on the country's specific foreign policy. India has been trying to develop this discipline since 1991 - this is related to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the need to reorient the foreign policy. Another landmark for the reorientation of India's economic diplomacy was the foreign policy of Manmohan Singh and the current foreign policy of Narendra Modi. The first chapter of this thesis deals with the theoretical and methodological basis as well as the economic diplomacy of developing countries. The second chapter focuses on the economic situation in India. The third chapter characterizes the development of foreign policy and economic diplomacy in India. The last chapter characterizes the economic diplomacy of India in Africa to this day.
