Mollusc fauna of terrestrial island-like habitats

Abstract:

Malakofauna České republiky je velmi dobře prostudována, avšak stanoviště, jako jsou objekty lehkého opevnění, prozatím nikdo nezkoumal. Hlavním cílem práce proto bylo zdokumentovat diverzitu společenstev měkkýšů těchto stanovišť a vyhodnotit, kterými faktory prostředí byla určována. Dále zhodnotit, zda se u bunkru a jeho blízkého okolí projevuje ostrovní povaha a zda je možné jej považovat za refugium. V letních sezónách 2021 a 2022 byl proveden terénní výzkum 14 objektů lehkého opevnění na jižní Moravě. Na studovaných lokalitách bylo celkově nalezeno 18 druhů plžů, z nichž dva řadíme do červeného seznamu. Jedná se o druh Granaria frumentum a Oxychilus inopinatus. Navíc byl nalezen druh Chondrula tridens, jehož stupeň ohroženosti byl snížen, avšak stále jde o nehojný druh. Díky výskytu těchto druhů můžeme stanoviště považovat za refugia stepní malakofauny v jinak silně pozměněné zemědělské krajině. V rámci teorie ostrovní biogeografie byl predikován vliv velikosti ostrova, který zde však nehrál zásadní roli. Oproti tomu vliv vzdálenosti od nejbližší zdrojové populace se projevil i v takto malém měřítku. Práce přináší první poznatky týkající se malakofauny objektů lehkého opevnění a jejich charakteristiky.

Abstract:

The malacofauna of the Czech Republic is very well studied, but habitats such as light fortifications have not yet been investigated. Therefore, the main objective of this work was to document the diversity of the mollusc communities of these habitats and to evaluate which environmental factors determined it. Furthermore, to assess whether bunkers and their surroundings exhibit insularity and whether they can be considered refugia. In the summer seasons of 2021 and 2022, field research was conducted at 14 light fortification sites in southern Moravia. A total of 18 snail species were found at the study sites, two of which are on the Red List. These are the species Granaria frumentum and Oxychilus inopinatus. In addition, the species Chondrula tridens was found, whose threat level has been reduced, but it is still a non-abundant species. Due to the presence of these species, the habitats can be considered as refugia for steppe molluscs in a highly modified agriculture landscape. Within the theory of island biogeography, the influence of island size was predicted, but did not play a major role here. In contrast, the effect of distance from the nearest source populations was evident even at this small scale. This paper presents the first findings concerning the malacofauna of light fortification objects and their characteristics.
