Infinitive Non-finite Adverbial Clauses in Spanish Literary and Administrative-Legal Texts in Function of Syntactic Condensers and Their Czech Equivalents

Abstract:

The use of infinitive in adverbial clauses is considered to be a means of syntactic condensation by some authors. This thesis aims to provide a theoretical background for the phenomenon especially with respect to infinitive non-finite adverbial clauses that can be found in Spanish. Subsequently, it observes their occurrence in the contemporary Spanish literary and administrative-legal texts, as well as their Czech equivalents in case of literary texts. Based on a statistical analysis of four Spanish contemporary novels and approximately the same volume of texts published in the Official Journal of European Union, 589 and 406 infinitive non-finite adverbial clauses have been discovered in literary and administrative-legal texts respectively. It emerged that final and time clauses appeared relatively frequently in both types of texts, although their count was different; literary texts moreover also registered a considerable amount of modal clauses. Other types of adverbial clauses generally showed to be rather rare.

Použití infinitivu v adverbiálních větách je některými autory považováno za prostředek syntaktické kondenzace. Tato práce si klade za cíl poskytnout teoretický přehled daného jevu především s ohledem na infinitivní adverbiální věty vyskytující se ve španělštině. Následně sleduje četnost výskytu těchto konstrukcí v současných španělských literárních a administrativně právních textech, v případě literárních textů také jejich české ekvivalenty. Na základě statistické analýzy čtyř španělských románů a textů přibližně stejného rozsahu publikovaných v Úředním Věšníku Evropské Unie bylo nalezeno 589 a 406 infinitivních adverbiálních vět v literárních a administrativně právních textech v tomto pořadí. Ukázalo se, že účelové a časové věty se objevily s relativně vysokou frekvencí v obou typech textů, ačkoliv jejich počet byl různý; literární texty navíc také zaznamenaly poměrně velké množství vět způsobových. Další druhy adverbiálních vět se obecně vyskytly zřídka.
