British Colonial Rule in Zambia

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis aims to define and evaluate the impacts of the British colonial rule on the territory of today's Zambia. The first chapter focuses on the country's historical background, the beginning of the British invasions, and the natives' response. The chapter depicting the beginning of colonial rule provides reasons for the colonialisation. Furthermore, it examines the establishment of the BSAC rule. Chapter third describes the adjustment to colonialism; therefore, the living conditions of the local population, and the new administration. In addition, it concentrates on the differences between cultures and religions. The fourth chapter outlines the country's development and is divided into three sectors: economy, education, and healthcare. The last chapter contains the end of colonial rule, the protests that demanded independence, and an overview of postcolonial Zambia. The thesis is written in English.

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je definovat a zhodnotit dopady britské koloniální správy na území dnešní Zambie. První kapitola se zaměřuje na historii země, počátek britských invazí a reakci domorodců. Kapitola zachycující počátek koloniální nadvlády uvádí důvody kolonizace. Dále se zabývá zavedením vlády BSAC. Třetí kapitola popisuje přizpůsobení se kolonialismu; tedy životní podmínky místního obyvatelstva a novou správu. Dále se zaměřuje na rozdíly mezi kulturami a náboženstvím. Čtvrtá kapitola charakterizuje vývoj země a je rozdělena do tří sektorů: hospodářství, školství a zdravotnictví. Poslední kapitola obsahuje konec koloniální nadvlády, protesty, které se domáhaly nezávislosti, a souhrn informací týkajících se postkoloniální Zambie. Práce je psána v angličtině.
