"Tattoo your soul" - Tattoo and its symbolic meaning in social interaction

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá fenoménem tetování, a to především v pojetí jeho symbolického významu v sociální interakci. Cílem této práce je pak poskytnout sociálně kulturní i sociálně psychologický pohled na problematiku tetování a umožnit tak čtenáři seznámit se s tímto fenoménem z poněkud odlišné strany, než jak bývá prezentováno médii a než jak bývá ve společnosti zažito. Fenomén tetování je nejprve ukotven v umělecké kategorii bodyartu a následně zasazen do sociálně kulturního rámce, kde se zabývám například demograficko-historickým kontextem vývoje tetování, funkcemi a významy tetování, poukazuji na tetování jako důležité součásti komunikace, rozdílného vnímání tetování u žen a mužů či jedinci a sociálními skupinami využívajícími, dobrovolně i nedobrovolně, tetování ke sdělení informací okolí. V rámci výzkumu jde o umožnění pohledu na subjektivní vnímání zkušeností plynoucí z interakce s okolím respondenty z řad tetované společnosti, a osvětlit tak některé specifické jevy s tímto fenoménem úzce souvisejícími, jako motivace k tetování, reakce rodin a okolí či samotné principy stereotypizace.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with tattoo and its symbolic meaning in social interaction. The main objective of this thesis is to present socio-cultural and socio-psychological point of view at problem of tattoo and enable readers to read about this phenomenon from the different side than a media present and the society has as unchanging. At the first tattoo is a part of artistic category of body art and then is in detail described demographic and historical context of evolution of tattoo, functions and meanings of tattoo. I refer to important of tattoo in communication, different perceiving tattoo at women or men. And one of chapters is for example about communication of individuals and groups with their tattoos to surroundings. The part of research of my thesis deals with subjective meanings of experience with social interaction of surroundings by respondents from tattoo community and describes some specific phenomenon what have context with this, as motivation to get tattoo, reaction of family and surroundings, or problem of prejudices.
