The future of coal mining in the Czech Republic, as presented by public actors: a discourse analysis

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje konceptům hodnot, hodnotových orientací a jejich výskytu na pozadí veřejných debat o konci těžby uhlí v Česku. Energetické transformace představují nedílnou součást současné socioekonomické situace, kdy kvůli dopadům klimatické změny dochází k přehodnocování využívání fosilních zdrojů energií. Výskyt hodnotových orientací u aktérů debaty byl zkoumán diskurzivní analýzou spolu s identifikováním témat, která pro aktéry těchto veřejných debat představují zásadní faktory k řešení v procesu dekarbonizace, na které ale sami aktéři nahlížejí optikou odlišných sociálně konstruovaných světů.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the concepts of values, value orientations and their occurrence against the background of public debates on the end of coal mining in the Czech Republic. Energy transformations are an integral part of the current socio-economic situation, where the impacts of climate change are leading to a re-evaluation of the use of fossil energy sources. The occurrence of value orientations among debate actors was examined through discursive analysis, along with the identification of themes that represent crucial factors for the actors of these public debates to address in the decarbonisation process, but which the actors themselves view through the lens of different socially constructed worlds.
