Galileo Galilei Between Two Worlds
Abstract:
Diplomová práce představuje na případu toskánského matematika Galileiho jeden z přetrvávajících konfliktů mezi vědou a vládnoucími autoritami. Galileo Galilei se pokusil nahradit aristotelské uspořádání světa Koperníkovou teorií. Tato snaha vedla ke střetu světa vědy se světy víry a politiky reprezentovanými tehdejšími církevními autoritami.
Abstract:
The diploma thesis presents one of the ongoing conflicts between science and the ruling authorities by using the case of the Tuscan mathematician Galilei. Galileo Galilei tried to replace the Aristotelian view of the world with the theory of Copernicus. This attempt led to the clash between the world of science and the worlds of religion and politics represented by the then church hierarchy.
