Motivation and Personality Characteristics Related to Health Behavior

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na popis životního stylu mladých dospělých a na exploraci vztahu osobnostních proměnných, motivace a chování souvisejícího se zdravím. Pro měření osobnostních charakteristik jsme použili zkrácenou verzi dotazníku MHQ (Multidimensional Health Questionnaire) Snella a Johnsonové (2002), motivaci jsme měřili Dotazníkem motivace k výkonu LMI (autoři Schuler a Prochaska, 2011) a životní styl jsme zjišťovali Škálou chování souvisejího se zdravím (autorky J. Dosedlová, Z. Slováčková, H. Klimusová). Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 188 osob ve věku 20-30 let (144 žen a 44 mužů; 121 studujících a 67 pracujících). V oblasti životního stylu se objevily nedostatky hlavně v dodržování dostatečné pohybové aktivity, správného poměru živin ve stravě a v konzumaci ovoce a zeleniny. Další výsledky naznačují existenci statisticky významných vztahů mezi subškálami MHQ a zdraví podporujícím chováním, vztahy se potvrdily u subškál: self-efficacy vztažená ke zdraví, uvědomování si vlastního zdraví, motivace vyhnout se nezdravému, externí locus of control typu náhoda a štěstí vztažené ke zdraví, optimismus ohledně budoucího zdraví, motivace ke zdraví, internal locus of control. Statisticky významné vztahy jsme nalezli také mezi motivací a zdraví podporujícím chováním.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the describing the lifestyle of young adults and on the exploration of the relationship between personality variables, motivation and health behavior. To measure personality characteristics, we used a shortened version of the questionnaire MHQ (Multidimensional Health Questionnaire; Snell and Johnson, 2002 ), motivation were measured with the Questionnaire of Achievement Motivation LMI (authors: Schuler and Prochaska, 2011) and the lifestyle were measured with The Scale of the Health Behavior (authors: J. Dosedlová, Z. Slováčková, H. Klimusová ). The research sample consisted of 188 persons aged 20-30 years (144 women and 44 men; 121 students and 67 workers). Their life style appeared to be unhealthy mainly in keeping adequate physical activity, keeping proper ratio of nutrients in the diet and the consumption of fruits and vegetables. Other results suggest the existence of statistically significant relationships between MHQ subscales and health promoting behaviours, relationships were confirmed for followin subscales : health-efficacy, health consciousness, motivation to avoid unhealthiness, chance-luck health control, health expectations optimism, motivation for healthiness, internal locus of control. We found statistically significant relationships also between motivation and health promoting behaviours.
