Coping: The Effectiveness of Coping Strategies and Marital Satisfaction

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vnímanou efektivitou strategií zvládání zátěže v matrimoniologickém kontextu. Základním cílem výzkumného projektu bylo zjistit, zda a jak souvisí vnímaná efektivita copingových strategií s manželskou spokojeností. Teoretická část uvádí teoretická východiska pro návrh výzkumu, a to definice základních pojmů, přístupy k problematice zkoumání zvládání zátěže, adaptivnímu copingu a copingovým strategiím, stejně jako manželské spokojenosti. Kapitolu uzavírá rozbor dvou výzkumů copingových strategií u párů jako respondentů. Empirická část, kromě stanovení cíle výzkumu, popisuje výzkumný soubor, proměnné a metody ve výzkumu, dále metody sběru a zpracování dat a kritické zhodnocení dodržení zásad zkoumání efektivity copingu. V kapitole výsledky se věnujeme podrobnému popisu a interpretaci výsledků. V následující kapitole podrobněji diskutujeme významné výsledky a kriticky hodnotíme celý výzkum. K nejzajímavějším výsledkům naší práce patří zjištění, že negativní-pasivní strategie, zejm. strategie rezignace, mají kladný vztah k manželské spokojenosti a pozitivní-aktivní strategie, zejm. strategie kontroly, negativní vztah.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is concerned with perceived effectiveness of coping strategies in matrimonial context. Main aim of this research project was to determine whether or how perceived effectiveness relates to marital satisfaction. The theoretical part states theoretical base for our research design, i.e. definitions of basic concepts, approach to problems of study of coping, adaptive coping and coping strategies as well as marital satisfaction. The chapter is concluded by the analysis of two research projects which are concerned with coping strategies in couples as respondents. The empirical part – apart from stating of the aim of our research – describes research sample, variables and methods in research furthermore methods of data gathering and processing and critical assessment of compliance with the principals of effective coping research. The chapter-results is devoted to detailed description and interpretation of the results of this study. In the next chapter the most significant results are discussed and the research is critically evaluated. The most significant results of our project are these: negative-passive strategies are positively related to marital satisfaction and positive-active strategies are negatively related to marital satisfaction.
