Classical mode of Hearthstone from the point of view of game theory

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou klasického modu karetní on-line hry Hearthstone z pohledu teorie her. Cílem práce je popsat principy hry Hearthstone, včetně pravidel a průběhu hry. Dalším cílem je navrhnout některé strategie zvyšující šanci na vítězství v této hře, porovnat jejich přínos a pojednat o možných oblastech aplikace vybraných principů karetních her v jiných oborech teorie her, či ekonomie. V teoretické části je popsána karetní hra Hearthstone z pohledu teorie her, jsou vysvětlena pravidla a průběh hry. V praktické části byl pomocí programovacího jazyka R vytvořen model hry, ve kterém se hra odehrává mezi dvěma náhodnými mechanismy za určitých předpokladů. V tomto modelu byly hledány strategie zvyšující šanci na vítězství a jejich přínos pro hráče byl testován. Následně byly tyto strategie kombinovány a hledána nejsilnější kombinace strategií. Nakonec byly diskutovány možné aplikace těchto strategií a některých principů z Hearthstone v reálném světě. Přidanou hodnotou této práce je modelování hry, hledání strategií a testování jejich přínosu.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis deals with the analysis of the classical mode of online card game Hearthstone from the point of view of game theory. The aim of the thesis aims is to describe the principles of Hearthstone, including the rules and the course of the game. Another goal is to propose some strategies that increase the chance of winning, compare their benefits, and discuss possible areas of application of selected principles of card games in other fields of game theory or economics. In the theoretical part, Hearthstone is described from the point of view of game theory, the rules and the course of the game are explained. In the practical part, a model of Hearthstone was created using the R programming language. In this model the game takes place between two random mechanisms under certain assumptions. Using this model, strategies offering a chance of victory were sought and their benefits to the player were tested. Then the strategies were combined, and the strongest combinations were sought. Finally, possible real-world applications of these strategies and some Hearthstone principles were discussed. The added value of this work is game modelling, finding strategies and testing their benefits.
