Railway line vegetation as a bioindicator of environmental conditions

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce bylo určení druhového složení vegetace vybraného úseku železniční tratě a zhodnocení podmínek prostředí na základě indikačních znaků rostlin. Jednotlivé druhy byly zapsány metodou fytocenologických snímků, vegetace byla dále hodnocena mnohorozměrnými analýzami ekologických dat pomocí počítačového programu Canoco 5.0. Práce se zaměřuje na šíření ruderálních druhů rostlin, včetně šíření invazních druhů, které představují globální problém. Práce shrnuje rizika i přínosy vegetace na dopravních tratích a zabývá se metodami likvidace nevhodné vegetace. Na zájmovém území byl vyhodnocen výskyt velkého množství druhů rostlin s vysokou produkcí nektaru a pylu, které poskytují potravu opylovačům. Podle výskytu silně nitrofilních druhů bylo usouzeno, že území je pravděpodobně silně obohaceno o dusík pocházející z blízkých polí. Závěrem bylo konstatováno, že vegetace železniční tratě má významný potenciál sloužit jako bioindikátor podmínek prostředí a může pomoci lépe porozumět ekologickým změnám.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis was to determine the species composition of the vegetation of the selected section of the railway line and to evaluate the environmental conditions based on the plant indicator traits. The individual species were recorded using the method of vegetation plots, the vegetation was further evaluated by multivariate analyses of ecological data using the Canoco 5.0 program. This work focuses on the spread of ruderal species, including the spread of invasive plant species, which are a global problem. The thesis summarizes the risks and benefits of vegetation on transportation routes and discusses methods of eradicating unsuitable vegetation. Finally, the presence of a large number of plant species with high nectar and pollen production, which provide food for pollinators, has been assessed in the area of interest. Based on the presence of highly nitrophilous species, it was concluded that the area is likely to be heavily enriched with nitrogen from nearby fields. Finally, the paper concludes that the vegetation of the railway line has significant potential to serve as a bioindicator of environmental conditions and can help to better understand ecological changes.
