Snowboard video in the Context of New Media Studies

Abstract:

This master thesis deals with snowboard video in the context of new media studies. The video displays two things. One of them is snowboarding – riding, kickers, tricks. The second one shows lifestyle connected with this sport. Practices of producing and consuming snowboard video make up an important part of snowboard subculture. However, until these days, there have not been any concern to define the snowboard video in audio-visual context. The work is divided into three main parts. First of them deals with definition of snowboard subculture – style, perception of human body, artistic expression of snowboarders. The second part is concerning about snowboard video and features of new media – postproduction, games studies, theory of videoclipe. In the last, third part, the thesis is focused on practical side of snowboard video – historical overview, distribution, technical equipment. The aim of this thesis is to create the definition of snowboard video, which take into consideration on the one hand social and cultural point of view and on the other hand technological and material one. Every feature of video is confirmed with different examples from snowboard videos. Thesis also states particular riders. The findings of the thesis are obtained from scholarly texts and articles.

Abstract:

Predkladaná diplomová práca sa zaoberá snowboardovým videom v kontexte štúdií nových médií. Video zobrazuje dve veci. Jednou je šport snowboarding – jazdenie, skoky, triky. Druhá ukazuje životný štýl spojený s týmto športom. Produkovanie a konzumovanie snowboardového videa je dôležitou súčasťou snowboardovej subkultúry. No napriek tomu definícia snowboardového video ako audio-vizuálneho diela doposiaľ chýba. Práca sa delí na tri hlavné časti. Prvá z nich sa venuje snowboardovej subkultúre – štýlu, vnímaniu ľudského tela, umeleckému vyjadreniu snowboardistov. Druhá časť sa zaoberá snowboardovým videom a znakmi nových médií – postprodukcia, herné štúdiá, teória videoklipu. Nakoniec, v tretej časti sa práca zameriava na praktickú stránku snowboardového videa – historický prehľad, distibúcia, technické vybavenie. Cieľom práce je vytvoriť definíciu zohľadňujúcu na jednej strane sociálne a kultúrne hľadisko a na druhej strane technologické a materiálne hľadisko snowboardového videa. Každý znak videa je potvrdený konkrétnym príkladom z rôznych snowboardových diel. Práca cituje konkrétnych jazdcov. Poznatky získava z odborných textov a článkov.
