Age structure of the mountain forest in the north-western part of CHKO Šumava – analysis of archival documents

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou věkové struktury horského lesa v severozápadní části Chráněné krajinné oblasti Šumava (dále CHKO Šumava) s využitím archivních materiálů. Popisuje horské smrčiny, vývojové cykly a disturbance, ať už biotické nebo abiotické. Cílem práce je prostřednictvím analýzy historických záznamů a mapových dat získat vhled do historického vývoje lesních porostů v oblasti Jezerní hory a Ostrého. Dále se věnuje analýze archivních materiálů, zejména historických lesních hospodářských plánů z 19. století, s důrazem na identifikaci změn ve věkové struktuře lesních porostů. Výsledky věkové struktury ukázaly, že porosty ve studované oblasti byly nevyrovnané. Porosty s největší rozlohou vznikaly okolo roku 1780 a 1820. Tyto výsledky byly dále srovnány s výsledky dendrochronologických analýz na studovaném území a porosty se s určitými plochami shodovaly a s jinými odlišovaly. Zjistilo se, že porost v daném období procházel disturbancemi, věková struktura byla nevyrovnaná a po porovnání dat z archivní porostní mapy s letokruhovou analýzou se data do určité míry shodovaly. Tato práce přispívá k lepšímu porozumění historického vývoje lesních ekosystémů v CHKO Šumava.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of the age structure of the mountain forest in the north-western part of the Šumava Protected Landscape Area (Šumava Protected Landscape Area) using archival materials. It describes mountain spruce forests, development cycles and disturbances, both biotic and abiotic. The aim of the thesis is to gain insight into the historical development of forest stands in the area of Jezerní hora and Ostrý through the analysis of historical records and map data. It also analyses archival materials, especially historical forest management plans from the 19th century, with an emphasis on identifying changes in the age structure of forest stands. The results of the age structure showed that the stands in the study area were uneven. The stands with the largest area were established around 1780 and 1820. These results were further compared with the results of dendrochronological analyses in the study area and the stands were consistent with some areas and different with others. It was found that the stand was undergoing disturbance during the period, the age structure was erratic and when the data from the archival stand map was compared with the vintage analysis, the data agreed to some extent. This work contributes to a better understanding of the historical development of forest ecosystems in the Šumava Protected Landscape Area.
