Foreign currency transactions in accounting and consolidation according to US GAAP

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je vysvětlit principy cizoměnových transakcí v účetnictví a jejich návaznost na sestavení účetních výkazů za konsolidační celek a dále analyzovat a prezentovat rozdíly převodu účetních výkazů při volbě rozdílných funkčních měn v rámci konsolidačního celku v souladu s US GAAP.V diplomové práci se prolíná teoretická část s praktickou ve formě názorných příkladů k dané problematice. Na úvod jsou objasněny klíčové pojmy a popsán postup volby funkční měny. Dále jsou popsány cizoměnové transakce,jejich přecenění a následné metody převodu účetních výkazů. Práce se také dotýká problematiky účetních jednotek operujících v podmínkách hyperinflačníekonomiky. Na závěr práce je uveden komplexní příklad, který porovnává použití jednotlivých metod převodu a znázorňuje aplikaci standardu ASC 830.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to explain principles of foreign currency transactions in accounting and their effects on group financial statements under US GAAP and also to analyze and present differences between remeasurement and translation of financial statements when the foreign entities within the group chosen a different functional currency.In this thesis, the theoretical part and practical part in form of examples for the given matter combine. In the beginning, the key terms are explained and the process of determination of functional currency is described. Next,the foreign currency transactions recognition, the subsequent measurement and the methods of translation of financial statements are described. The thesis also outlines the issue of highly inflammatory economies. In the end, there is a complex example which compares the remeasurement and translation methods and illustrates the application of ASC 830.
