Nursing interventions affecting newborn breathing

Abstract:

Přehledová bakalářská práce je strukturována do dvou částí. První část práce zkoumá vliv ošetřovatelských intervencí na podporu dýchání u novorozenců. Dále detailně popisuje různá respirační onemocnění novorozenců, včetně symptomů a léčebných možností. Druhá část práce pak sumarizuje aktuální vědecké studie a poznatky, které se týkají této problematiky. Poznatky byly zhodnoceny podle stanovených kritérií, aby poskytly ucelený obraz o efektivitě a využitelnosti vybraných ošetřovatelských intervencí při podpoře dýchání u novorozenců. Cílem této přehledové bakalářské práce bylo vyhledat a sumarizovat aktuálně dohledané relevantní poznatky o ošetřovatelských intervencích podporujících dýchání novorozence. Práce se opírá o syntézu a analýzu dat z dohledaných zdrojů. Při hledání českých pramenů byla použita databáze Bibliographia medica Čechoslovaca (BMČ), zatímco pro zahraniční zdroje byly využity databáze PubMed, EBSCO - MEDLINE, CINAHL Plus with Full Text a ProQuest. Analýza studií byla provedena podle stanovených kritérií a dílčích cílů. Přehledová bakalářská práce se soustředí na význam polohování, odsávání a péče skin-to-skin u novorozenců trpících respiračními obtížemi nebo ohrožených těmito obtížemi. Z analýzy studií vyplývá klíčová role ošetřovatelských intervencí v péči o novorozence. Vhodné polohování je spojeno se snížením rizika respiračních problémů. Zkoumání vlivu odsávání zdůrazňuje potřebu pečlivého výběru metody pro minimalizaci stresu a bolesti. Kontakt skin-to-skin je bezpečný i pro novorozence s respiračními obtížemi a má pozitivní účinky na jejich dýchání a adaptaci na mimoděložní život.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is structured in two parts. The first part of the thesis examines the effect of nursing interventions on respiratory support in newborns. It then details various respiratory diseases of newborns, including symptoms and treatment options. The second part of the thesis then summarizes the current scientific studies and findings related to this issue. The findings have been evaluated according to established criteria to provide a comprehensive picture of the effectiveness and utility of selected nursing interventions in promoting breathing in neonates. The aim of this undergraduate review thesis was to search and summarize the relevant knowledge currently available on nursing interventions to support newborn breathing. The thesis is based on the synthesis and analysis of data from retrieved sources. The Bibliographia medica Čechoslovaca (BMČ) database was used to search for Czech sources, while PubMed, EBSCO - MEDLINE, CINAHL Plus with Full Text and ProQuest databases were used for foreign sources. The analysis of the studies was performed according to the set criteria and sub-objectives. This review bachelor thesis focuses on the importance of positioning, suctioning and skin-to-skin care in neonates with or at risk of respiratory difficulties. The analysis of studies shows the key role of nursing interventions in newborn care. Appropriate positioning is associated with reduced risk of respiratory problems. Examining the impact of suctioning highlights the need for careful selection of method to minimise stress and pain. Skin-to-skin contact is also safe for newborns with respiratory difficulties and has positive effects on their breathing and adaptation to extrauterine life.
