Tato práce se věnuje ve svém úvodu obecnému zakotvení pojmu zvíře do českého právního řádu, jeho definici a postavení zvířete v právu. V další části práce jsou rozebrány některé základní zásady obecné ochrany zvířat, následované trestněprávní ochranou zvířat a výkladem některých trestných činů spojených se zvířaty.
