Self-assesment in teaching and learning of German as a foreign language

Abstract:

The thesis „Self-assessment in teaching and learning German as a foreign language“ deals with often overlooked issue of a special type of teaching and learning evaluation when students are encouraged to evaluate their knowledge, abilities and skills themselves. In this context, evaluation is referred to as a competence with the overlap to the extracurricular areas of human life, which is, however, necessary to acquire by gradual practising. In the theoretical part of the thesis, the evaluation in the context of didactic strategies is defined and its significance within the scope of autonomous learning is emphasized. Afterwards, anchoring of the system of types of evaluation is outlined, as well as its role and types in teaching. Apart from the above mentioned, the theoretical part also deals with a modified teacher's and student's role in teaching. In this part, attention is also paid on possible difficulties and prejudices, with which a self-assessment can be associated. In the research section, a survey is presented. In the survey, a quantitive and qualitative approach is combined with the aim to ascertain to what extent and by what means the ability of self-assessment is being developed in a selected group of students in teaching and learning German as a second foreing language after English. By observating classes, carrying out a questionnaire survey among students, a deep questioning of the teacher and the analysis of a German textbook, the goal of the thesis is to do a research of the issue of the implementation of self-assessment in teaching and learning German from different perspectives. The theoretical insight into the issue of self-assessment and researches are complemented with the practical part that extends the whole topic with practical activities, which creatively support the development of self-assessment abilities of students who learn German laguage. A partial thesis output is therefore creating a segmented manual, primarily for teachers, determined to implement the self-assessment methods in teaching and learning.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Sebehodnocení ve výuce němčiny jako druhého cizího jazyka“ se zabývá často opomíjenou problematikou zvláštního typu hodnocení ve výuce, kdy jsou žáci vedeni k tomu, hodnotit si své vědomosti, schopnosti a dovednosti. V tomto kontextu je sebehodnocení zmiňováno jako kompetence s přesahem i do mimoškolních oblastí lidského života, kterou je však nutno si osvojit postupným nacvičováním. V teoretické části diplomové práce je definováno sebehodnocení v kontextu učebních strategií a je zdůrazněn jeho význam v rámci konceptu autonomního učení. Následně je nastíněno ukotvení v systému typů hodnocení, stejně jako jeho funkce a typy ve výuce. Kromě výše uvedeného se teoretická část práce zabývá pozměněnou rolí učitele a žáka ve výuce. V této části je rovněž věnována pozornost možným úskalím a předsudkům, se kterými může být sebehodnocení spojováno. Ve výzkumné části je pak prezentována studie, v níž je v kombinován kvantitativní a kvalitativní přístup s cílem zjistit, do jaké míry a jakou formou je u vybrané skupiny žáků ve výuce německého jazyka, jakožto druhého cizího jazyka po angličtině, rozvíjena schopnost sebehodnocení. Pomocí pozorování výuky, dotazníkového šetření u žáků, hloubkového dotazování učitele a analýzy učebnice německého jazyka má práce za cíl probádat z více úhlů problematiku realizace sebehodnocení ve výuce němčiny. Teoretický vhled do problematiky sebehodnocení a výzkumná šetření jsou doplněna praktickou částí práce, která rozšiřuje celé téma praktickými činnostmi, které kreativním způsobem podporují u žáků ve výuce němčiny rozvoj schopnosti sebehodnocení. Dílčím výstupem práce je tedy zároveň vytvoření strukturovaného manuálu především pro učitele, určeného k zavedení sebehodnotících postupů do výuky.
