Pack algorithms and membrane multiagent systems

Abstract:

V této disertační práci se budeme zabývat heuristicky odvozenými přírodou inspirovanými algoritmy. Zejména smečkovými algoritmy, které se inspirují společenským soužitím vlků obecných a jejich schopností ve smečkách dynamicky vytvářet hierarchii, ve které má každý jedinec jasně danou roli. Toto chování můžeme matematicky popsat a simulovat v multiagentním systému. Smečkové algoritmy se používají zejména pro řešení optimalizačních problémů. Již v současnosti našly uplatnění v celé řadě oblastí, jako jsou neuronové sítě, medicína, počítačová grafika a další. V této práci studujeme možnost jejich paralelní implementace pomocí P kolonií – dalšího přírodou inspirovaného formalismu. 2D P kolonie jsou variantou P kolonií s dvojrozměrným prostředím a představují membránový systém s komunitami jednoduchých agentů, umístěnými ve společně sdíleném prostředí, kteří spolu komunikují pomocí programů složených z jednoduchých pravidel. Tato pravidla řídí činnost a pohyby agentů v prostředí. 2D P kolonie byly úspěšně použity v řadě oblastí, jako například pro simulaci přívalových povodní nebo pro simulaci chování mravenčí kolonie. Základní definice ale neumožňuje simulaci smečkového algoritmu, protože spolu agenti komunikují jen pomocí prostředí složeného z jednoduchých objektů. Nesdílejí spolu informaci o vlastních pozicích, a tedy nemohou utvářet hierarchii, která podporuje koordinovaný pohyb agentů směrem k potravě. V rámci našeho výzkumu jsme představili novou verzi 2D P kolonie rozšířenou o tabuli a prostředí obsahující číselné hodnoty. Tyto modifikace byly provedeny za účelem úspěšné simulace smečkového algoritmu pomocí 2D P kolonií. V práci popisujeme formální definici, počítačovou simulaci, výsledky testování a porovnání s původní verzí algoritmu.

Abstract:

This dissertation thesis is focused on heuristic optimization algorithms inspired by nature, especially on the pack algorithms. The pack algorithms are inspired by the social dynamics found in packs of grey wolves, and by their ability to dynamically create hierarchies in which every member has a clearly defined role. This behavior can be mathematically described, and it can be simulated by a multi-agent system. Grey wolf algorithms are primarily used for solving optimization-based problems. Currently, they have already found use in a variety of fields, such as neural networks, medicine, computer graphics, and many others. In this thesis, we study the possibility of the parallel implementation of the grey wolf algorithm using other nature-inspired theoretical models, which are P colonies. 2D P colony is a version of the P colonies with a two-dimensional environment. It is a membrane system consisting of a community of simple agents acting in a shared environment. Each agent is equipped with a set of simple programs consisting of simple rules. The rules allow the agents to act and move in the environment. 2D P colonies were successfully used in a variety of fields, such as simulation of flash floods, or simulation of an ant colony, but they cannot successfully simulate the wolf pack algorithm. Therefore, the agents can communicate only via the shared environment consisting of simple objects, they cannot share their positions and form the desired hierarchy. In our research, we introduced a numerical version of the 2D P colony equipped with the blackboard. The environment of the 2D P colony contains also the discrete values of the fitness function. These modifications of the 2D P colony were designed for the simulation of the Grey wolf algorithm. We present a formal definition, computer simulation, results, and comparison with the original algorithm.
