Reaction of nitrogen dioxide with soot surface and PAHs

Abstract:

V diplomové práci se zabývám problematikou uhlíkových částic (sazí) v atmosféře, zejména reaktivitou na jejich povrchu. V ovzduší se vyskytuje celá řada polutantů s různou mírou persistence, bioakumulace a toxicity. Polutanty vázané na povrchu částic mohou podléhat reakcím s jinými látkami vyskytujícími se ve volném ovzduší nebo s látkami adsorbovanými na povrchu pevné frakce. Tato práce řeší otázku reaktivity oxidu dusičitého s modelovými polycyklickými aromatickými uhlovodíky (PAHs) adsorbovanými na aktivním uhlí (model sazí), identifikace produktů reakce a reakční kinetiku. Zvolené látky napodobují nejen PAHs přirozeně se vyskytující v sazích, ale i některé funkční skupiny přítomné na povrchu sazí. V závěru práce je navržen mechanismus reakce antracenu a jeho derivátů, které byly naneseny na povrchu pevné fáze, s oxidem dusičitým.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on the issue of carbon particles (soot) in the atmosphere, especially on their surface reactivity. In the air, there are numerous pollutants with varying degrees of persistence, bioaccumulation and toxicity. Contaminants bound to the particle surface may be subject to reaction with other substances occurring in the ambient air or with substances adsorbed on the surface of the solid fraction. This paper addresses the issue of reactivity of the nitrogen dioxide with model polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) adsorbed on activated carbon (soot pattern), identification of reaction products and reaction kinetics. These substances model not only the PAHs naturally occuring in soot, but also some functional groups present on the surface of soot. The conclusion proposes a reaction mechanism of anthracene and its derivatives adsorbed on the surface of the solid phase with carbon dioxide.
