Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vlivem otroctví na kulturní a sociální život otroků ve Spojených státech amerických. Zaměřuje se na situaci otroků před občanskou válkou, jejich rodinný život, kulturu, vzdělání, náboženství a životní styl. Výzkum byl podložen tištěnými zdroji a zdroji z internetu včetně sepsaných vyprávění otroků a akademickými publikacemi. Práce je rozdělena do osmi kapitol a každá kapitola se zaměřuje na jednotlivé aspekty života v otroctví. Prvních pět kapitol popisuje sociální aspekty a následující tři kapitoly mapují kulturní aspekty. První kapitola popisuje plantáže a práci otroků. Druhá kapitola se zaměřuje na rodinu a její funkci. Třetí kapitola pojednává o stravě otroků. Čtvrtá kapitola zkoumá oblečení. Pátá kapitola se zaměřuje na bydlení. Šestá kapitola zahrnuje kulturu otroků a její africké pozadí. Sedmá kapitola popisuje vzdělání. Poslední, osmá kapitola se zaobírá náboženstvím a náboženskými písněni otroků. Cílem této práce je popsat, jak otroctví postihlo životy otroků.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the impact of slavery on cultural and social life of slaves in the United States of America. It is concerned with the situation of slaves before the Civil War, their family life, culture, education, religion and lifestyle. The research was based on various sources, either online or printed, including slaves' narratives and academic publications. The thesis is divided into eight chapters and each chapter examines different part of slave experience. The first five chapters are concerned with social aspects and the remaining three chapters deal with cultural aspects. The first chapter describes the plantation and labour that was performed there by slaves. The second chapter focuses on a slave family and its function. The third chapter deals with the diet of slaves. The forth chapter examines clothing. The fifth chapter concentrates on housing. The sixth chapter involves culture of slaves and its African background. The seventh chapter covers education. The last, eighth chapter is concerned with religion and the spirituals. The aim of the paper is to describe how the institution of slavery affected lives of slaves.
