Comparison of knowledge of physical geographic hazards of pupils in 6 and 9 classes

Abstract:

Geografie, jako jeden z předmětů na školách v České republice i jinde ve světě, je předmětem, který se zabývá přírodou, krajinou, vztahy v ní, lidskou činností apod. I přes tak rozsáhlá a zajímavá témata se však mezi žáky netěší velké oblibě. Tato práce shrnuje základní znalosti z vybraného tématu geografie, a to geografických hazardů, tedy přírodních katastrof, které dnes a denně ovlivňují náš život na Zemi. Zaměřuje se na základní definice těchto hazardů tak, aby byly tyto definice pochopitelné i pro žáky základních škol. Další část práce je věnována statistickým datům výuky zeměpisu v České republice a obecně k tomu. Lze říci, že tento předmět patří spíše mezi ty méně oblíbené. Z pedagogického hlediska se navíc potýká s nedostatkem kvalitních vyučujících, velké procento těch, kteří předmět vedou, je dokonce neaprobované k výuce zeměpisu. Poslední stěžejní část práce se zaměřila na průzkum znalostí žáků na konkrétní škole, a to na ZŠ Lerchova v Sušici, okres Klatovy. Zde bylo provedeno testování mezi žáky 6. a 9. tříd. Byly ověřovány jejich znalosti v zeměpisu, a to pomocí jednoduchého testu s otevřenými i uzavřenými otázkami, které odpovídaly RVP a ŠVP (rámcově vzdělávací program, školní vzdělávací program) pro jejich ročník. Výsledky byly více než podprůměrné. Většina žáků nebyla schopna odpovědět správně na více než polovinu otázek. Navíc z hodnocení vyplynulo, že žákům dalo největší problém vyplňovat otevřené otázky, tedy vyjadřovat se vlastními slovy bez nápovědy. Otevřena zůstává otázka, zda k těmto výsledkům vedl špatný učební systém na škole, nesoustředěnost žáků v kritické situaci kolem Covid-19, nebo snad i nevhodný přístup a vedení ze strany vyučujícího. Faktem však zůstává, že v oblastech předmětu geografie jsou i v době snadné dostupnosti informací značné mezery ve znalostech většiny žáků.

Abstract:

Geography, as one of the subjects in schools in the Czech Republic and elsewhere in the world, is a subject that deals with nature, landscape, relations in it, human activity, etc. Despite such extensive and interesting topics, however, it is not very popular among students. This work summarizes the basic knowledge of a selected topic of geography, namely geographical hazards, i.e. natural disasters that affect our lives on Earth today and every day. It focuses on the basic definitions of these hazards so that these definitions can be understood by primary school students. Another part of the work is devoted to statistical data on teaching geography in the Czech Republic and in general. It can be said that this item is more of a less popular one. From a pedagogical point of view, moreover, it faces a lack of quality teachers, a large percentage of those who lead the subject are not even approved for teaching geography. The last main part of the work focused on the survey of pupils knowledge at a specific school, namely at the Lerchova primary school in Sušice, Klatovy district. Here, testing was performed among 6th and 9th grade students. Their knowledge in geography was verified, using a simple test with open and closed questions, which corresponded to the FEP and SEP (framework educational program, school educational program - in czech RVP and ŠVP) for their year. The results were more than below average. Most students were unable to answer more than half of the questions correctly. In addition, the evaluation showed that the biggest problem for students was to fill in open-ended questions, i.e. to express themselves in their own words without help. The question remains whether these results were due to a poor school teaching system, the lack of concentration of students in a critical situation around Covid-19, or perhaps the inappropriate approach and guidance on the part of the teacher. However, the fact remains that there are significant gaps in the knowledge of most pupils in the areas of the subject of geography, even at a time when information is easily available.
