Gender socialization and leisure

Abstract:

Práce analyzuje vztah mezi genderovou socializací a volnočasovými aktivitami. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části, teoretickou a analytickou. První část práce se věnuje klíčovým konceptům. Teoreticky se práce opírá o klasické socializační teorie (Parsons, Durkheim, Berger a Luckmann, Bourdieu), teorie socializace ve feministických teoriích (Horney, Klein, Chodorow), koncepty genderově specifické socializace dívek a chlapců, childhood studies, sociologii volného času a genderové aspekty volného času. Druhá část práce se zabývá analýzou nabídky volnočasových aktivit. Tato analýza je zaměřena zejména na genderové aspekty nabízených aktivit. Jedná se o metodu obsahové analýzy. Bylo zjištěno, že nabídka volnočasových aktivit je genderovaná a obsahuje některé specificky dívčí a specificky chlapecké kroužky. Byly také popsány konkrétní mechanismy, pomocí kterých dochází v nabídce kroužků k reprodukci genderových nerovností. Dále bylo zjištěno, že nabídka sportovních aktivit prezentuje chlapecký sport jako normu a dívčí sport, jako jeho méněcennou a trivializovanou verzi. V závěru byly všechny poznatky shrnuty a vztaženy k použitým teoriím.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to analyze the relationship between gender socialization and leisure activities. The thesis itself is divided into two basic parts. The first part of this thesis deals with definition of the key concepts. In this part are described classical socialization theories (Parsons, Durkheim, Berger and Luckmann, Bourdieu), socialization in feminist theories (Horney, Klein, Chodorow), gender socialization, childhood studies, leisure studies and relationship between leisure activities and gender. The second part deals with analyze of organized leisure activities. It focuses on the position of gender in the offer of leisure activities. For this purpose is used the content analyze. At first this part describes methodology. After that it offers results of analyze. Analyze find out, that offer of leisure activities is gendered. In the offer of leisure activities are revealed typically girl's and typically boy's activities. Were also described the specific mechanisms, by which are gender inequalities supported. Offer of sport activities trivialized girl's sports. Conclusion of thesis is devoted to a summary of gender issues in organized leisure activities.
