Grammatical values of the Spanish gerundive and its application in different functional styles

Abstract:

The aim of this work was to gather information about the grammatical functions of Spanish gerundive, to confront the different attitudes of various linguists and to implement analysis of the frequency of usage of the impersonal verbal form in the literary and no literary texts. In the literary texts we focused on the artistic style ? prose and in the no literary texts we selected publicists style, the concrete genre ? press news. The work is divided into two parts ? theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part we dealt with the general characteristics of the gerundive and with its particular functions which inclusive the function of the gerundive as an adverb in the function adverbially determination, the function of the gerundive with the unexpressed and expressed subject in the sentence, the function of the gerundive as an predicate, with the verbal periphrases and with the semantics values. In the practical part we analysed a few prosaics and publicists texts. We focused on the frequence of the use of the impersonal verbal form, stating particular examples. At the end of the work we presented the statistics of the frequency of usage of the gerundive in differents functions.

Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo shromáždit poznatky o gramatických funkcích španělského gerundia, porovnat, jak se k dané problematice staví jednotliví autoři a provést výzkum četnosti a rozmanitosti použití tohoto neosobního slovesného tvaru v literárních a neliterárních textech. U literárních textů jsme se zaměřili na umělecký styl ? prózu a z textů neliterárních jsme volili publicistický styl, konkrétní žánr ? novinová zpráva. Práce je rozdělena na dvě hlavní části ? část teoretickou a část praktickou. V části teoretické jsme se zabývali obecnými charakteristikami gerundia a jeho jednotlivými funkcemi, zahrnujících funkci gerundia jakožto adverbia ve funkci příslovečného určení, funkci gerundia s nevyjádřeným a vyjádřeným subjektem ve větě, funkci gerundia jakožto predikátu, slovesnými perifrázemi a sémantickými hodnotami. V praktické části jsme provedli analýzu několika prozaistických a publicistických textů. Zaměřili jsme se na frekvenci užití tohoto neosobního slovesného tvaru s uvedením konkrétních příkladů. V závěru práce předkládáme statistiku, uvádějící četnost výskytu gerundia v různých funkcích.
