Czechoslovak State Security Service in the “greater” Vyškov District between 1945 and 1960. Insight into the structure of the lowest segment of the communist secret police

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce přibližuje fungování nejnižšího stupně Státní bezpečnosti na příkladu okresu Vyškov od jejích předúnorových předchůdkyň až do konce 50. let. Opomenuty nezůstávají ani útvary StB v Bučovicích a ve Slavkově, které se od Vyškovska oddělily po územní reformě v roce 1949. Cílem práce je tak kromě pokusu o postihnutí obecných znaků komunistické tajné policie na okresní úrovni především sledování jejích konkrétních průvodních jevů na služebnách ve Vyškově, Bučovicích a Slavkově. Zvolené časové úseky kopírují působení jednotlivých velitelů a později náčelníků, přičemž výsledek bádání je doveden do roku 1960, kdy po další územní reformě zanikají okresy Bučovice a Slavkov a opětovně se začleňují pod vyškovský okres. V neposlední řadě se autor pokusil o kompletní personální rekonstrukci všech tří sledovaných oddílů Státní bezpečnosti. Okrajovou část práce pak tvoří vylíčení některých sociálních aspektů příslušníků StB ve sledovaných okresech.

Abstract:

The Diploma Thesis focuses on the operation of the Czechoslovak State Security Service (StB) lowest tier based on the example of the Vyškov District from the pre-February 1948 predecessors to the end of the 50’s. It also includes the StB Departments of Bučovice and Slavkov, which became independent of the Vyškov District after the 1949’s administrative reorganization. In addition to characterizing the general features of the communist secret police at the district level, it aims at monitoring the concrete attendant circumstances at the Vyškov, Bučovice and Slavkov Offices. The time periods have been chosen based on the services of individual commanding officers, later superintendents; the research have been conducted till 1960, when the Bučovice and Slavkov districts ceased to exist and became a part of the Vyškov district after another administrative reorganization. Last but not least, I have attempted to compile a personnel list of the abovementioned StB offices. A small part of the Thesis is also devoted to the description of some of the social aspects of the StB members in the abovementioned districts.
