Folk Singing Contests for Children and Youth in the Region of South Moravia

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se snaží dokumentovat vývoj a současný stav soutěží dětských zpěváků lidových písní na jižní Moravě, která je charakteristická svým, nejen hudebním, folklorem. Pořádání těchto soutěží má zde již dlouhou tradici a představuje první interpretační krůčky mnoha zpěváků a hudebníků. Autor práce se sám v dětství mnoha z nich zúčastnil, což přispělo k jeho zájmu o hudbu, zpěv a lidové umění. Je zde proto předpoklad, že tyto soutěže měly a mají vliv i na další jejich účastníky, což chci zkoumat kvalitativně formou rozhovorů s aktéry. Cílem této diplomové práce je podat výpověď o vývoji a současném stavu soutěží dětských zpěváků lidových písní v oblasti jižní Moravy. Spolu s tímto se práce zabývá jak významem těchto soutěží pro celé folkloristické hnutí v oblasti, tak osobním přínosem pro účastníky těchto soutěží.

Abstract:

This thesis wants to document the development and the current state of folk singing contests for children and youth in the region of south Moravia which is so characterictic for its, not only musical, folklore. These contests have already a long tradition here and for young interpreters they often represent the first experience of public performing. The author himself used to take part in these contests during his childhood and this has marked him with the interest in music, singing and folk culture. Hence, there is a hypothesis, that these contests had and have significant influence also on the other contestants. I want to study this potential phenomenon qualitatively by interviewing the persons involved. The aim of the thesis is to make a report of the development and the current state of folk singing contests for children and youth in the region of south Moravia. In addition, the thesis studies the significance of these contests both for the whole folklorist movement and for the individual contestants.
