The relationship between the dimension Novelty Seeking and Cultural Intelligence in expatriate employees

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on identifying the personality dimension of Cloninger’s Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI-R) – Novelty Seeking and the Scale of Cultural intelligence (CQS) among expatriate employees. In the study we compared the sample means and the population means of these two constructs using t-test. The relationship between these the constructs was also investigated. We also compared the differences of the variables with respect to relocation motivations and gender differences. The research analyzes the dimension Novelty Seeking from a developmental perspective and it studies the relationship between Cultural Intelligence and the length of a stay abroad. The aim of this study is to investigate these relationships in the sample of labour immigrants (N=65), employees of the outsourcing company based in Czech Republic. We found that the sample means of Novelty Seeking and Cultural Intelligence we statistically higher that average population means. The relationship between these two constructs that we verified using partial correlations were not statistically confirmed. When interpreting the test results we also took into account the indicated relationships which would be fully reflected in a larger research sample. The relationship was found between the subdimension Impulsivity and the age, however it was the opposite relationship than we had expected. The Impulsivity in our research sample increases with age. The relationship between Cultural Intelligence and the length of a stay abroad was not statistically confirmed.

Abstract:

Cieľom diplomovej práce bolo preskúmanie osobnostnej dimenzie Cloningerovho dotazníka TCI-R – vyhľadávanie nového a škály kultúrnej inteligencie CQS u expatriovaných zamestnancov. Za použitia t-testu sme porovnali výberové a populačné priemery týchto dvoch konštruktov. Preskúmaná bola tiež tesnosť vzťahu medzi danými konštruktmi. Zároveň sme ich hodnoty porovnali z hľadiska motivácie presídlenia do ČR a rozdielov medzi pohlaviami. Cloningerovu dimenziu sme ďalej analyzovali z vývojového hľadiska a preskúmali sme vzťah kultúrnej inteligencie respondentov a dĺžky ich pobytu v zahraničí. Cieľom výskumu bolo odhaliť tieto súvislosti u vzorky pracovných imigrantov (N=65), zamestnancov outsourcingovej spoločnosti sídliacej v ČR. Bolo zistené, že miera vyhľadávania nového a kultúrnej inteligencie je u výskumnej skupiny vyššia než u priemernej populácie. Vzťah medzi týmito dvoma konštruktmi, ktorý sme overovali pomocou parciálnych korelácií, sa štatisticky nepotvrdil. Pri interpretácii výsledkov sme však zohľadnili náznaky vzťahov, ktoré by sa plne prejavili na väčšej výskumnej vzorke. Preukázala sa tesnosť vzťahu medzi vekom a subdimenziou impulzivita, avšak išlo o opačný vzťah, než sme očakávali. Impulzivita sa v našej výskumnej vzorke zvyšuje s pribúdajúcim vekom. Vzťah medzi kultúrnou inteligenciou a dĺžkou pobytu v zahraničí sa taktiež štatisticky nepotvrdil.
