Critical Evaluations of the Church in Literary Works of Jan Hus and Petr Chelčický

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je prozkoumat kritickou reflexi římské církve v dílech Jana Husa a Petra Chelčického. Tato kritika je svébytným způsobem vyjádřena zejména ve dvou zásadních dílech, konkrétně O církvi a Síť víry, na něž je v práci kladen hlavní důraz. U obou knih je analyzován kontext, styl a kulturní dopad této kritiky. Práce se zaměřuje hlavně na rozdílné prostředí a zázemí autorů a na způsob, jakým tyto okolnosti nepopiratelně ovlivnily jejich přístup k tradičním zdrojům a Bibli, k úloze literatury, ale i k samotné středověké společnosti.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with critical evaluations of the Roman Church in the works of Jan Hus and Petr Chelčický. It is focused on two major books, O církvi (The Church) and Síť víry (The Net of Faith), the literary pieces dealing with the church criticism in a specific way. Regarding both of the books, the context, the style and the cultural impact of the conveyed criticism is analysed. The thesis especially emphasises the influence of the authors’ dissimilar background which heavily affects the writers’ attitudes towards traditional sources and the Bible, to the role of literature as well as to the medieval society itself.
