Case Studies in Small-Sample Statistics

Abstract:

In this thesis we deal with the formulation of a theoretical basis for estimations of distribution parameters where the random sample sizes are small and classical approaches based on the central limit theorem are insufficient. We use methods based on likelihood and higher-order asymptotic theory which provide us very accurate approximations even with a small number of observations. Then we apply the acquired knowledge using RStudio on specific examples and compare them with classical procedures.

Abstract:

V tejto diplomovej práci sa venujeme vytvoreniu teoretického základu pre odhady parametrov rozdelení, kde rozsahy náhodného výberu sú malé a klasické prístupy založené na centrálnej limitnej vete nedostatočné. Využívame na to metódy založené na vierohodnosti a asymptotickej teórii vyššieho stupňa, ktoré nám poskytujú veľmi presné aproximácie aj pri malom počte pozorovaní. Poznatky potom aplikujeme pomocou programu RStudio na konkrétnych príkladoch a porovnávame ich s klasickými postupmi.
