An Analysis of Attitudes of Adolescents to the Phenomenon of Old Age

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou postojů dospívající mládeže ke stáří a k seniorům. Práce se dělí na dvě části, a to na část teoretickou a část výzkumnou. Teoretická část nabízí pohled na problematiku fenoménu stáří, zaměřuje se na postoje, jejich utváření a změnu. V rámci pedagogicko-psychologického paradigmatu jsou zde popisovány charakteristické znaky období dospívání a stáří. Uvádí shrnutí vybraných předsudků a mýtů zakládajících nosnou myšlenku ageismu. Těžištěm empirické části je kvantitativní průzkumné šetření prováděné na třech základních a dvou středních školách. Kvantitativní výzkum je zaměřen na zmapování postojů ke stáří v závislosti na zvolených proměnných - pohlaví, věk, studovaný ročník. Analýza a intepretace dat poskytuje informace o míře ageistických postojů ke stáří u sledovaného vzorku respondentů. Vede nás k zamyšlení o vztahu dvou odlišných generací a šanci na zlepšení.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the analysis of adolescents' attitudes towards the old age and elderly people. The paper is divided into two parts the theoretical part and the re-search part. The theoretical part gives an overview on the issue of the phenomenon of old age, focusing on attitudes, their formation and change. Within the pedagogical-psychological paradigm, the characteristics of adolescence and old age are described. The paper summarizes some selected prejudices and myths establishing the principal ideas of ageism. The focus of the empirical part is on a quantitative survey conducted in three elementary and two secondary schools. The quantitative research is focused on mapping the attitudes towards the old age, depending on the selected variables - age, sex and the year studied. Analysis and interpretation of the data provides information about the degree of ageist attitudes towards the old age based on the surveyed sample of respondents. It also leads us to consider the relationship between the two different generations and a chance for improvement.
