Import Substitution Strategy: Comparison Brazil and Mexico

Abstract:

Thesis deals with the development strategy applied in Latin American countries in the years 1950 -1980 and compares the process of its implementation in the conditions of Brazil and Mexico and its impacts. The first part of the thesis focuses on the theoretical anchoring of the development strategy of import substitution, it captures the opinion discourse, which is conducted in professional circles in connection with it and the context in which this strategy originated. The second part of the thesis briefly captures the process of implementing this strategy in Latin American countries in general. The third part of the thesis focuses specifically on Brazil and Mexico and chronologically examines the implementation of the development strategy and its impacts in individual countries. The last part of the thesis deals with the synthesis of knowledge from the previous sections and summarizes the main similarities and differences in the impacts of the import substitution strategy for Brazil and Mexico.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá rozvojovou stratégiou aplikovanou v krajinách Latinskej Ameriky v rokoch 1950 -1980 a porovnáva proces jej implementácie v podmienkach Brazílie a Mexika a jej dopady. Prvá časť práce sa zameriava na teoretické ukotvenie rozvojovej stratégie nahradzovania importov, zachytáva názorový diskurz, ktorý je vedený v odborných kruhoch v súvislosti s ňou a kontext v ktorom táto stratégia vznikala. Druhá časť práce stručne zachytáva proces implementácie tejto stratégie v krajinách Latinskej Ameriky obecne. Tretia časť práce sa sústreďuje konkrétne na Brazíliu a Mexiko a skúma chronologicky postup pri zavádzaní rozvojovej stratégie a jej dopady v jednotlivých krajinách. Posledná časť práce sa venuje syntéze poznatkov z predchádzajúcich častí a sumarizuje hlavné podobnosti a rozdiely v dopadoch stratégie nahradzovania importov pre Brazíliu a Mexiko.
