Abstract:

The thesis deals with the historical and recent position of Native American women and changes, which have influenced generations of indigenous women of the North American continent. Work analyzes the status and roles of Indian women in the pre-contact and pre-reservation eras and further focuses on the changes, which occurred during the 19th and 20th centuries and the influence these changes had on the life of Native women. The thesis opens with the introduction of stereotypes and beliefs the American and European majority still holds about the Native women and also the way Native women are presented in literature and film. The thesis ends with an evaluation of today?s identity, values, medical and social problems of the Native population, with focus on women.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá minulou a současnou pozicí indiánských žen a změnami, které ovlivnily život generací žen původního obyvatelstva severní Ameriky. Práce analyzuje postavení a role indiánských žen před kolonizací a před vznikem rezervací a dále pak analyzuje zásadní změny, ke kterým došlo v průběhu 19. a 20. století a vliv, který tyto změny měly na život indiánských žen. Práce začíná představením stereotypů a způsobů, jakým indiánské ženy vnímá majoritní společnost Spojených států a Evropy a jak jsou prezentovány v literatuře a filmu. Závěr práce hodnotí současnou identitu, hodnoty, zdravotní a sociální problémy původního obyvatelstva s důrazem na ženy.
