Analysis of the Impacts of Low and Negative Real Interest Rates on the Current Position and Prospects of the Czech Economy Based on the Consumption to Wealth Ratio 1995-2019

Abstract:

Dlouhodobě nízká úroveň úrokových sazeb, měla negativní efekt na připravenost světových ekonomik na nadcházející recesi. Práce si klade otázku, jak prostředí nízkých úrokových sazeb ovlivnilo ekonomiku České republiky, tedy malou otevřenou ekonomiku s vlastní měnou. Podkladem bude vývoj úrokové míry, a ukazatele poměru spotřeby a bohatství. Práce si klade za cíl diskutovat interakci fiskální a měnové politiky a přirozené úrokové míry od vzniku České republiky po současnost. Práce čerpá z metodiky Gourinchase a Rey (2016), kteří vyzdvihují ukazatel poměru spotřeby a bohatství jako vhodný nástroj pro analýzu dlouhodobých trendů, a aplikuje ho na příkladu České republiky. Důvodem výběru příkladu České republiky je fakt, že současné práce zkoumající toto téma se věnují pouze velkým ekonomikám

Abstract:

The long-term low level of interest rates had a negative effect on the readiness of world economies for the coming recession. This thesis raises the question of how the environment of low-interest rates affected the economy of the Czech Republic, ie a small open economy with its own currency. The basis for the analysis will be the dynamics of the interest rate, and indicators of the ratio of consumption to wealth. The thesis aims to discuss the interaction of fiscal and monetary policy and natural interest rates from the establishment of the Czech Republic to the present. The work draws on the methodology of Gourinchase and Rey (2016), who highlight the ratio of consumption to wealth as a suitable tool for the analysis of long-term trends, and applies it to the example of the Czech Republic. The reason for choosing the example of the Czech Republic is the fact that current work examining this topic deals only with large economies.
