Attitudes towards Motherhood and Self-Efficacy among Czech and Polish Women in Emerging Adulthood

Abstract:

Studie se zabývá problematikou postojů k mateřství a sebeúčinností u českých a polských žen v období vynořující se dospělosti. Výzkum byl realizován jako korelační studie na souboru 280 respondentek z Česka a Polska. V rámci studie byly použity dotazníkové metody IDEA, GSES a MFP a demografický dotazník. Potvrdilo se, že Polky mají k mateřství negativnější postoj, než Češky i přesto, že v polském souboru bylo více věřících respondentek, což naopak souviselo s pozitivnějším postojem k mateřství. Vlastní zkušenost s mateřstvím zvyšuje úroveň vnímaných výhod mateřství a také úroveň sebeúčinnosti. Ze sledovaných charakteristik vynořující se dospělosti byl zjištěn pozitivní signifikantní vztah pouze mezi subškálou experimentování a škálou vnímaných nevýhod mateřství.

Abstract:

The study deals with the issue of attitudes towards motherhood and self-efficacy among Czech and Polish women in the period of emerging adulthood. The research was conducted as a correlation study on a set of 280 respondents from the Czech Republic and Poland. The study used the methods of the IDEA, GSES and MFP questionnaires and a demographic questionnaire. It was confirmed that Poles have a more negative attitude towards motherhood than Czech women, despite the fact that there were more religious believers in the Polish sample, which in turn was related to a more positive approach to motherhood. The experience of motherhood itself increases the level of perceived benefits of motherhood as well as the level of self-efficacy. From the observed characteristics of emerging adulthood, a positive significant relationship was found only between the subscale experimentation and the scale of perceived disadvantages of motherhood.
