"Czech Germans", Foreigners in Their Own Land.

Abstract:

V této práci se věnuji tématu česko-německých vztahů a to především oblasti souţití německé národnostní menšiny s českou majoritou. Pokusil jsem se provést komparaci ?obecně uznávaného? pohledu české majority (analýzou základní dostupné historické a etnografické literatury), s pohledem samotných příslušníků německé národnostní menšiny (respondentů mého kvalitativního výzkumu).Oba výklady se shodují především ve výkladu příčin současného stavu této národnostní menšiny v České republice. Jedná se o proces postupného opouštění německé ?národnosti? a splývání s českou majoritní společností.Odlišný je ale způsob interpretace, kde ve výkladu historické a etnografické literatury dominuje především ?národnostní? interpretace, která autory vede k postupnému konci německé ?národnosti? v České republice, zatímco u respondentů je patrná změna vnímání těchto pojmů a uţívání nového konceptu ?sebeidentifikace?.

Abstract:

The main topic of this thesis is the Czech-German relationship, especially the area of the coexistence of the German national minority with the Czech majority. I have attempted to present a comparison of the ?commonly acknowledged? view of the Czech majority (by realizing an analysis of accessible historical and ethnographic literature) with the view of the members of the minority themselves (respondents of my qualitative research). Both of the interpretations agree on the cause of the contemporary condition of the minority in the Czech Republic; the process of continual abandonment of German ?nationality? and blending with the Czech majority. However, there are differences regarding the interpretation, where the authors of literature tend to prefer the ?national? interpretation which leads them to the end German ?nationality? in the Czech Republic, while the respondents show evident change in the perception of such notions and use the new concept of ?self-identification?
