Analyses and Interpretations of SpatioTemporal Yield Information by Means of Remote Sensing in Context of Meteorological and Climate Data at Rostěnice Farm

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce byla analýza mezi množstvím listové biomasy na polích vzhledem ke klimatickým podmínkám na farmě Rostěnice v období duben–červenec v letech 2017–2021. Dílčím cílem bylo určení, zda množství listové biomasy na polích pro ječmen jarní a kukuřici koreluje s potenciálním výnosem plodin. Pro identifikaci množství listové biomasy na polích farmy Rostěnice byl počítán LAI index na satelitních snímcích Sentinel 2 L2A. Získané hodnoty byly porovnány s meteorologickými charakteristikami jako teplota vzduchu a úhrn srážek, které byly interpolovány z bodových meteorologických stanic. Díky korelaci se ukázalo, že existuje statisticky významný vztah mezi množstvím listové biomasy a meteorologickými charakteristikami s korelačními koeficienty vykazujícími vysokou variabilitu. Pomocí vizualizace LAI indexu bylo vyhodnoceno, že prostorový vzor na polích se opakuje v jednom roce a napříč lety nezávisle na plodině a klimatu. Následně bylo na základě korelačního koeficientu konstatováno, že existuje statisticky významný vztah mezi množstvím listové biomasy a potenciálním výnosem plodin na vybraných polích a síla korelace je větší než mezi meteorologickými charakteristikami. V neposlední řadě byly měsíce, které jsou klasifikovány podle typu počasí (suchý/vlhký a teplý/chladný), porovnány (pomocí kategorizovaného krabicového grafu) se standardizovaným LAI indexem podle měsíců pro vybraná pole. Došlo se k závěru, že suchý a teplý měsíc má nízké hodnoty LAI nebo větší rozsah hodnot v 25–75 % datové sady oproti vlhkým a teplým a také vlhkým a chladným měsícům. Vlhký a teplý měsíc má vyšší hodnoty LAI indexu než chladný a vlhký měsíc. Výsledky ukázaly rozdíly v hodnotách LAI indexu v závislosti na počasí.

Abstract:

The main goal of this thesis was the analysis between the amount of leaf biomass in the fields with respect to the climatic conditions on the farm Rostěnice in the period April–July in the years 2017–2021. A sub-objective was to determine whether the amount of leaf biomass in spring barley and maize fields correlates with potential crop yield. To identify the amount of leaf biomass in the Rostěnice farm fields, the LAI index was calculated on Sentinel 2 L2A satellite images. The obtained values were compared with meteorological characteristics such as air temperature and total precipitation, which were interpolated from point meteorological stations. Correlation showed that there was a statistically significant relationship between the amount of leaf biomass and meteorological characteristics with correlation coefficients showing high variability. Using the visualization of the LAI index, it was evaluated that the spatial pattern in the fields repeats itself in one year and across years independently of the crop and climate. Subsequently, based on the correlation coefficient, it was concluded that there is a statistically significant relationship between the amount of leaf biomass and the potential yield of crops in the selected fields, and the strength of the correlation is greater than that between meteorological characteristics. Last but not least, the months that are classified by weather type (dry/humid and warm/cool) were compared (using a categorized box plot) with the standardized LAI index by month for the selected fields. It was concluded that dry and warm months have low LAI values or a larger range of values in 25–75 % of the data set compared to wet and warm and also wet and cool months. A wet and warm month has higher LAI index values than a cold and wet month. The results showed differences in LAI index values depending on weather.
