Forecast accuracy of betting markets

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to show whether the odds given by bookmakers have better predictive ability than odds that summarize the expectations of bettors. In the first part, we will focus on the characteristics of the betting markets. Then we will take a look at the functioning of the prediction markets, where we will discuss attributes and show how they are presented in the literature. In the second part we will focus on defining the used model and we will explain the results of economic analysis.

Abstract:

Predmetom diplomovej práce „Přesnost predikci na trhu sázek“ je ukázať, či kurzy, ktoré sú stanovené bookmakerom majú lepšiu predikčnú schopnosť ako kurzy, ktoré zhrňujú očakávania stávkujúcich. V prvej časti sa zameriame na charakteristiku, stávkových trhov. Následne sa pozrieme na fungovanie predikčných trhov, kde si zhrnieme základné vlastnosti a ukážeme si ako predikčné trhy vystupujú v literatúre. V druhej časti práce sa zameriame na definovanie použitého modelu a zhrnutie výsledkov ekonometrickej analýzy.
