Regional - geographic information and it's effect on education - on example of Latin Amerika

Abstract:

Disertační práce prezentuje výsledky výzkumu šestých a osmých ročníků základních škol v oblasti Brna a blízkého okolí. Výzkum vychází z výsledků zkoumání představ a znalostí žáků o Latinské Americe. Teoretická část práce shrnuje základní pojmy, žákovo pojetí učiva, způsob tvorby žákovských prekoncepty, stav poznání a důvody pro volbu Latinské Ameriky jako modelové oblasti. Metodologie vychází z výzkumného šetření provedeného v 60. letech 20. století v USA. Hlavním cílem bylo ověřit funkčnost metodologie z amerického výzkumu v českých podmínkách. Dalším cílem bylo zjistit, jaké představy mají žáci o různých oblastech světa a jak se tyto představy v průběhu výuky transformují. Současně suma cílů výzkumu byla zaměřena na zjištění žákovských znalostí o Latinské Americe, jejich vývoj a rozměr v různých blocích zeměpisného učiva také v širších souvislostech výsledků mezinárodních výzkumů úrovně přírodovědných znalostí žáků. Přínos práce je formulován v závěru práce, a to z hlediska metodologického, pedagogického a z hlediska didaktiky geografie. Pozornost byla zaměřena především na identifikaci nedostatků a trendů v oblasti představ a znalostí žáků. Disertační práci uzavírá výukový materiál navržený s cílem eliminovat negativní jevy prokázané ve výzkumu.

Abstract:

The dissertation presents results of research into the teaching of geography at the second level of primary schools (sixth and eighth grade) and the lower years of grammar schools in Brno and surrounding area. The research is based on analysis of student´s image and knowledge about Latin America. Theoretical part covers basic terms, student´s concept of curriculum, the way how student´s preconceptions are made, contemporary situation of research in this area and also clarify reasons of choosing Latin America as the area of interest for this research. Methodology comes from another research made in the sixties of the twentieth century in the USA about how students see and what do they know about Africa south of the Sahara. The main goal was to find out, if the methodology can be used in czech area without any problems. The general goal of the research was to specify image students have about Latin America and other parts of the world, and how does that image change during their studies. The second main goal was to clarify on what level are student´s knowledge about this area and in what way the level of knowledge is changing according to the theme in schoolbooks, especially pointing to partial section of geographical studies, compared to student´s results in international research made in past years. The contribution made by the thesis is formulated in conclusion covering methodological, pedagogical and didactic of geography points of view focusing on identify lacks and trends in the area of student´s images and knowledge about Latin America. The final part of the dissertation is made by education material designed with a goal to reduce negative results of the research.
