Contribution of Jack the Ripper in musicals performances of Phantom of London and Ghost of London

Abstract:

Diplomová práce s názvem Přínos tématu Jacka Rozparovače v muzikálech Fantom Londýna a Přízrak Londýna pojednává o přístupech k hudebnímu zpracování námětu událostí spojených s osobou Jacka Rozparovače. Součást práce tvoří kapitoly o autorech libreta muzikálů a deskripce jednotlivých jednání muzikálu Fantom Londýna. Konkrétním popisem muzikálů Fantom Londýna a Přízrak Londýna, předchází historické nastínění doby, ve které se odehrály vraždy Jacka Rozparovače a seznámí tak čtenáře s historickými fakty a motivy vraha zabitých žen. Pomocí komparace obou zmiňovaných muzikálů poskytuje tato diplomová práce komplexní vhled do problematiky hudebního nastudování, jejž dále doplňují rozhovory se samotnými autory, ale taktéž představiteli hlavních rolí muzikálu.

Abstract:

This Diploma Thesis with the title Contribution of Jack the Ripper in musicals performances of Phantom of London and Ghost of London deals with the approach to the musical processing of the events associated with the character of Jack the Ripper. Chapters about the authors of librettos of the musical and the descriptions of each action in the musical Phantom of London are included in the Thesis. The historical outline comes before the accurate description of Phantom of the London and Ghost of London musicals in which the Jack the Ripper?s murders took place and where the readers are going to be familiarized with the historical facts and the motives of the murdered women. Through the comparison of both musicals this diploma thesis provides a complex insight to the issue of musical staging that is further completed with the interviews with the authors themselves and also the representatives of the main parts of the musical.
