Cooperative Learning in English Language Classes

Abstract:

The thesis deals with cooperative learning. At first it offers a general theoretical introduction to cooperative learning. It provides basic information about the learning strategy, its benefits and drawbacks. There are described several cooperative learning structures. Also planning of a cooperative learning lesson, a teacher´s role and assessment are discussed in the theoretical background of the thesis. An individual section is dedicated to cooperative learning in English language classes. The research consists of an experiment with an observation and a questionnaire for students. In the experiment students were repeatedly exposed to the same cooperative learning activity and the changes in their behaviour were observed. The research proved that there are changes in students´ cooperative learning behaviour. The time which students need for the jigsaw activity and students´ dependence on the teacher were the major changes which appeared during the experiment.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá kooperativním učením. Nejprve je zde uveden teoretický úvod týkající se kooperativního učení. V teoretickém úvodu jsou prezentovány základní informace o této výukové strategii, jejich výhodách i nevýhodách. V práci je popsáno několik struktur kooperativních aktivit, dále plánování kooperativní hodiny, role učitele a hodnocení v hodinách s prvky kooperativního vyučování. Samostatná část je také věnována využití kooperativního učení v hodinách anglického jazyka. Výzkum se skládá z experimentu, v rámci kterého bylo prováděno pozorování, a dotazníku pro studenty. Během experimentu se studenti opakovaně účastnili jedné a té samé kooperativní aktivity, a byly sledovány změny v jejich chování. Výzkum dokázal, že změny v kooperativním chování studentů po čase opravdu nastanou. Během výzkumu studenti potřebovali stále kratší čas pro dokončení kooperativní aktivity a byli čím dál tím méně závislí na pomoci učitele.
