Role of Destination Management in Contemporary Tourism Industry

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on destination management in contemporary tourism, specifically the destination management organization CzechTourism. The aim is to prove that the CzechTourism, as the national tourism organization, fulfils the role of destination management organization in the Czech Republic accordingly with the main tasks presented both in definition of destination management organization and in the Foundation Deed of the CzechTourism. The thesis is divided into two parts – theoretical and practical. The first chapter of the theoretical part focuses on the tourism sector, its history, characteristics, and elements. The second chapter concentrates on the contemporary tourism and current trends in tourism. The third chapter contains characteristics of destination management and destination management organization and various approaches in defining them. The fourth chapter represents the practical part of the thesis – a review of activities of destination management organization, the CzechTourism. Analysis, comparison, and synthesis of the findings we gather through desk research provide preliminary conclusions that will be discussed with professionals.
