Factors controlling M concentration in birch leaves

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá sledováním proměnlivosti koncentrace manganu v listech břízy bělokoré (Betula pendula Roth) v Krušných horách během vegetační sezóny 2022. Práce shrnuje poznatky o potencionálních faktorech, které se mohou na této proměnlivosti podílet. Podle geologie podloží bylo vybráno sedm míst, značených A až G. Analýzy listů byly provedeny pomocí rentgenové fluorescenční spektroskopie (XRF) a analýzy půdních extraktů metodou ICP-MS. Zvýšené koncentrace Mn v listech břízy jsou zřejmě důsledkem nízkého půdního pH. Kyselé horniny, kde je Mn kvůli acidifikaci půdy fytodostupný, se jeví jako rizikový faktor, ale koncentrace Mn zde nemusí být vždy vysoká. Půdy na kyselých horninách často obsahují méně Mg2+, jehož příjem břízou je v antagonistickém vztahu s příjmem Mn2+: při nižší koncentraci Mg v listech může být vysoká koncentrace Mn. Nicméně ani tento faktor nepůsobí vždy - ani při deficitu Mg nemusí být koncentrace Mn zvýšená vždy. Dalším faktorem je zřejmě nadmořská výška nebo spíš pozice na svahu. Sezónní růst koncentrace Mn, který konstatovaly předchozí studie, se nepotvrdil. Pokles koncentrace Mn ke konci vegetační sezóny mohl být způsoben vysokými srážkami před posledním odběrem. Zdá se, že faktory vedoucí k vysokému příjmu Mn na sebe vzájemně působí. Je tedy potřeba ke každé lokalitě přistupovat individuálně.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused on monitoring concentration variability of manganese in the leaves of white birch (Betula pendula Roth) from the Ore Mountains, collected during the growing season 2022. The work summarises knowledge about potential factors that can contribute to this variability. Seven sampling sites, denoted A to G, were selected according to the bedrock geology. Leaf analyses were performed using X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) and analysis of soil extracts using the ICP-MS method. The increased concentrations of Mn in birch leaves are apparently a consequence of low soil pH. Felsic rocks, where Mn is phytoavailable due to soil acidification, appear to be a risk factor, but the concentration of Mn may not always be high here. Soils on acidic rocks often contain less Mg2+, whose uptake by birch is in an antagonistic relationship with Mn2+ uptake: lower concentration of Mg in the leaves can be connected with a high concentration of Mn. However, neither this factor always work - even with a Mg deficiency, the concentration of Mn does not always have to be increased. Altitude of sampling site or position on slope is apparently another factor. The seasonal growth of Mn concentration, which was noted in previous studies, was not confirmed. The decrease in Mn concentration towards the end of the growing season could have been caused by high precipitation before the last sampling. The factors leading to high Mn uptake seem to act in the interplay. Individually approach to each location is thus indispensable.
