Facial Similarity and the Mate Choice

Abstract:

Obličej představuje jednu z nejdůležitějších částí lidského těla z hlediska komunikace, sociálních interakcí a v neposlední řadě také z hlediska výběru partnera. Předpokládá se, že u člověka, podobně jako i u jiných živočichů, se uplatňuje pozitivní asortativní vzorec párování, jemuž by mohla podléhat i podoba v obličeji. V této bakalářské práci bylo pro zachycení fenoménu obličejové podobnosti mezi reálnými partnery využito metody morfometrie obličeje na fotografii, antropometrie živého člověka a dotazníkové metody. Materiál představoval soubor 70 dobrovolníků, tj, 35 partnerských párů. Výsledky odhalily přítomnost vyšší míry obličejové podobnosti mezi partnery v oblasti nosu a mediosagitální rovině obličeje. Rovněž byla zjištěna souvislost obličejové podobnosti partnerů s délkou trvání jejich vztahu a vyhlídkami vztahu do budoucnosti. Vliv má obličejová podobnost také na začátek sexuálního života partnerů. Podobnost v obličeji souvisí s tělesnou výškou, tělesnou hmotností a obvodem boků partnerů.

Abstract:

The face presents one of the most important parts of the human body for the communication, social interactions and for mate choice. It is supposed, that humans, alike other animals, use positive assorttative mating pattern for mating, and there is a possibility that facial similarity may be one of the aspects of assorttative mating pattern. In the presented bachelor paper the methods of facial photograph morphometry, anthropometry of the living human and questionnaires were used to record the similarities of real mates. The material consisted of the sample of 70 volunteers, i.e. 35 couples. The results display the existence of higher facial similarity in the nasal and mediosagittal facial areas. Also an association between the partner facial similarity and the length of their relationship duration and with the relationship future expectations was reported. There is also an influence of facial similarity on the beginning of the partners' sexual life. Facial similarity is also related to body height, body weight and the waist girth of the partners.
