Geomorphological aspects of distribution and development of the quaternary cryogenic textures in selected regions

Abstract:

Morfologie tříděných strukturních půd je výsledkem působení různých kryogenních procesů a rozdílných fyzicko-geografických podmínek. Tyto vzájemné vazby se pokusila odhalit morfometrická analýza založená na rozměrech tříděných půd, míře protažení jejich buněk, variabilitě rozměrů na lokalitě, podílu protažených tvarů na celkovém počtu tvarů na lokalitě, velikosti kamenů v lemech, topografii, sklonu lokality a vzájemnému uspořádání buněk. Primární data byla získána v různých periglaciálních oblastech zahrnujících pohoří v severním Švédsku, Ötztálské Alpy a antarktický ostrov James Ross Island. Ze zkoumaných faktorů je rozměr tříděných strukturních půd pozitivně ovlivňován velikostí kamenů v kamenných lemech. Rozměry tvarů mají úzkou spojitost s protažením a geometrií tvarů. Větší tvary bývají více protažené nebo nepravidelné a převážně v podobě sítí. Menší tvary bývají symetričtější a jsou zastoupeny především tříděnými kruhy. Charakter tříděných strukturních půd na lokalitách je výrazně ovlivněn také topografií a sklonem reliéfu. Výrazně morfometricky odlišně se projevují lokality ve sníženinách, které mají větší tvary převážně v podobě sítí. Výsledky z terénního pozorování, morfometrické analýzy a informací z literatury vedou k závěru, že vývoj tříděných strukturních půd může mít jednotné schéma. Pokud se v počáteční fázi neuplatní existence puklinové sítě, která určí geometrii vzoru, vznikají nejdříve tříděné kruhy malých rozměrů se slabým vytříděním. Tvary se dále zvětšují a dochází ke vzájemnému kontaktu. Dochází k postupnému rozpínání tvarů se změnou jejich geometrie na sítě nebo polygony. Pokud se tvary slučují, vznikají sítě složitějších tvarů. Pokud se tvary nesloučí a jejich rozpínání je symetrické, vznikají tříděné polygony. Žádný ze zvolených parametrů nemá určující vliv na morfologickou diverzitu. Pro morfometrickou analýzu jsou důležité charakteristiky popisující tvarovou variabilitu tříděných strukturních půd v rámci celé lokality. Jednotlivé buňky nepředstavují izolované tvary, jejichž morfologie je určena pouze procesy a podmínkami v rámci jejich rozsahu. Jsou ve vzájemné interakci a odrážejí podmínky na lokalitě a její celkovou dynamiku. Kombinace zvolených parametrů rozlišila lokality v oblasti se souvislým permafrostem na vrcholových plošinách ostrova James Ross Island a lokality z vysokohorského prostředí. Rozměry tříděných strukturních půd ze studovaných oblastí byly porovnány s obdobnými tvary z nejvyšších pohoří České republiky. Tvary v České republice se nejvíce podobají formám z oblasti Abiska v severním Švédsku.

Abstract:

The morphology of sorted patterned ground is the result of a variety of cryogenic processes and different environmental conditions. Morphometric analysis was used to detect these interactions. The analysis was based on dimensions of the sorted patterned ground, elongation of the cells, variability of the cell size at the locality, proportion of elongated cells in the total number of cells at the location, size of the stones in the stony borders, topography, slope inclination and mutual arrangement of cells. The primary data was obtained in various periglacial areas including mountains in Northern Sweden, the Ötztal Alps and the James Ross Island in the Antarctic Peninsula region. The dimension of sorted patterned ground is positively influenced by the size of stones in the stony border. Dimensions of the forms are closely associated with elongation and geometry. Larger forms are more elongated or irregular, and mostly in the form of nets. Smaller forms are usually symmetrical and are represented primarily by the sorted circles. The character of the patterned ground sites is significantly influenced by the topography and slope inclination. Significantly different in morphometry are sites in the depressions that have larger forms mainly of the net-like shape. Field observations, morphometric analysis, and information from the literature lead to the conclusion that the development of sorted patterned ground can have a unified scheme. If the existence of the fissure net is eliminated, because of its influence on the geometry, small sorted circles with poor sorting is the first stage that appears on the surface. Later, the forms increase and a mutual contact develops. There is a gradual expansion of the forms and a change in their geometry into nets or polygons. Coalescing of the fine centers forms larger and more complex shapes. If the forms do not merge and their expansion is symmetrical, sorted polygons arise. A higher degree of sorted patterned ground development increases the degree of sorting. None of the selected parameters have a prevailing influence on morphological diversity. Important for the morphometric analysis are parameters that describe the variability of sorted patterned ground at the entire site. Individual cells do not represent isolated shapes, whose morphology is determined only by the processes and conditions of their range. They interact and reflect conditions at the site and its dynamics as a whole. The combination of selected parameters distinguished sites in the area with continuous permafrost, situated on the summit plateaus of the James Ross Island and locations of the alpine environment. Dimensions of the patterned ground cells of the studied areas were compared with the similar data from the highest mountains of the Czech Republic. The forms in the Czech Republic are closest to that of the Abisko area in Northern Sweden.
