Energy availability for women in sports

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou energetické dostupnosti, zejména pak u fyzicky aktivních žen. Teoretická část pojednává o definici energetické dostupnosti, její optimální hodnotě a konceptu, v rámci něhož je vnímána ve sportovním prostředí. Důraz je kladen rovněž na detailní popis vlivu nízké energetické dostupnosti na organismus, její diagnostiku, prevenci a léčbu. Pro lepší pochopení textu jsou součástí práce také kapitoly přibližující energetickou potřebu organismu či fyziologický průběh menstruačního cyklu. Praktická část se věnuje stanovení prevalence nízké energetické dostupnosti ve vybraném populačním vzorku a testování vybraných hypotéz.

Abstract:

This master thesis deals with the topic of energy availability, especially in physically active women. The theoretical part is devoted to the definition and optimal value of energy availability as well as the concept in which is energy availability perceived in the sports environment. The thesis is focused on description of health consequences of low energy availability, its diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Chapters dealing with the energy expenditure and the normal menstrual cycle are also included to better understand the main idea of this paper. The purpose of the practical part of the thesis is to determine the prevalence of low energy availability in a selected population sample and to test the hypotheses.
