Movement as a form of expression in comedy film

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá pohybem jako výrazovým prostředkem výrazných osobností, Charlieho Chaplina, Bustera Keatona a Rowana Atkinsona. Herci, kteří dokážou přenést určitý postoj charakteru pomocí fyzičnosti divákovi. Na analýze pozorováním přístupů, které tyto osobnosti ztvárňují si ukážeme, jaké vlastnosti je spojují. Jaké herecké přístupy pomohli těmto hercům k úspěchu? 
Každý ze jmenovaných je výjimečnou postavou komedy kinematografie s odlišným stylem, přesto je ale jisté věci spojují. Protože vybraní herci se pohybují v jiných časových obdobích, je na místě tuto analýzu a porovnání zasadit do kontextu zvukového a němého filmu, kdy přenos zvuku nebyl možný a herci se museli vyjadřovat pouze svým pohybem, jako jedinou formou komunikace s divákem, jehož vnímání filmu s nástupem zvuku ve filmu mění.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with movement as a form of expression. In this thesis I will talk about significant personalities such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Rowan Atkinson. These actors can broadcast a certain attitude of character through their physical abilities to the viewer. By analyzing the attitudes of these personalities, we will also finds out what connects them. What acting approaches have helped these actors to succeed? Each of them is an exceptional character of a comedy cinematography, with a different style, yet there are certain things that connect them. Since actors that I picked comes from different period of time, it is appropriate to put this analysis and comparison into the context of sound and silent film, where sound transmission was not possible and actors had to express themselves only by their movement, as the only form of communication with the viewer, then everything changed with inventing sound in cinematography.
