Sense of Coherence and Life Roles Identification

Abstract:

The Diploma thesis is dedicated to the relationship between sense of coherence and life roles identification. The sense of coherence expresses the extent to which one’s feeling of confidence that happening in one’s inner and outer environment is predictable and structured; and that the resources are available in order to meet the demands posed by the environment that are worth engaging in. This research concentrates mainly on the issue of health. The impact of sense of coherence on everyday life and its factors are rarely investigated. Sporadic research in this field as well as recently observed changes in life roles served as an inspiration for this research. The aim of the thesis is to verify a hypothesis that sense of coherence is related to rootlessness in significant life areas, particularly work, partnership, parenthood, household, leisure time and friendship. The model also includes a role conflict that results from incompatible demands of different roles. The research is conducted on a sample of 249 respondents aged from 18 to 68. The data confirmed the relationship between sense of coherence and life roles identification. A detailed analysis showed significant gender differences. The investigated relationship is stronger for men, especially the identification with work, partnership and parenthood. Relationships between individual components of sense of coherence and components of life roles identification are different in relation to gender as well. Furthermore, for women a sense of coherence was found to decrease a role conflict.

Abstract:

Táto diplomová práca sa zaoberá vzťahom medzi osobnou koherenciou a identifikáciou so životnými rolami. Osobná koherencia vyjadruje mieru, do akej má jedinec dôveru v to, že dianie v jeho vnútornom i vonkajšom svete je predvídateľné a štruktúrované a že má k dispozícii potrebné zdroje k zvládnutiu požiadaviek okolia, ktoré stoja za to, aby sa do nich angažoval. Výskum osobnej koherencie sa sústredil hlavne na oblasť zdravia. Na okraji záujmu ostalo jej pôsobenie v bežnom živote či jej činitele. K výberu témy nás teda viedol sporadický výskum v tejto oblasti a súčasne i pozorovateľné premeny životných rolí v poslednej dobe. Cieľom práce je overiť, či osobná koherencia súvisí so zakorenenosťou vo významných životných oblastiach, a to práca, partnerstvo, rodičovstvo, domácnosť, voľný čas a priateľstvo. Do modelu sme ďalej zahrnuli i rolový konflikt, ktorý vzniká pri nezlučiteľných požiadavkách jednotlivých rolí. Výskum sme previedli na vzorke 249 respondentov vo veku 18 až 68 rokov. Potvrdilo sa, že osobná koherencia je spätá so zakorenenosťou v životných roliach. Podrobnejšia analýza ukázala významné rodové rozdiely. U mužov je skúmaný vzťah výrazne tesnejší, zvlášť u identifikácie s rolou pracovníka, partnera a rodiča. Vzťahy medzi jednotlivými zložkami osobnej koherencie a identifikácie s rolami sú taktiež rozdielne v závislosti na pohlaví. Osobná koherencia navyše u žien znižuje intenzitu rolového konfliktu.
