Investment decisions in the ESG fund market

Abstract:

Udržitelnost se v dnešní době stává důležitým kritériem, a to i v oblasti investování. Diplomová práce se zabývá právě sestavením investičního portfolia, které je vytvořeno pouze z udržitelných burzovně obchodovaných fondů (ETF). Práce je rozdělena na výběr vhodných fondů pomocí metod vícekriteriálního hodnocení variant a optimalizaci portfolia z nich sestaveného. Výběr je proveden pomocí metody ELECTRE III, která pracuje s vahami kritérií stanovenými pomocí Saatyho metody. Na šestici vybraných burzovně obchodovaných fondů je aplikován mean-semivariance model. Zároveň je navržena a aplikována modifikovaná verze mean-semivariance modelu, která je rozšířena o možnost vyjádření investorova postoje k udržitelnosti. Prostředkem je určení semivariance a stanovení požadavku minimální výnosové míry části portfolia složené ze striktně udržitelných burzovně obchodovaných fondů. Při hledání portfolií pomocí modifikovaného mean-semivariance modelu jsou uvažovány dva typy investorů lišících se postojem k udržitelnosti. Na vykreslených efektivních hranicích jsou nalezena portfolia reflektující preference obou uvažovaných investorů.

Abstract:

Sustainability is becoming an important criterion nowadays, including in the field of investment. The thesis deals with the construction of an investment portfolio that is composed only from sustainable exchange-traded funds (ETF). The thesis is divided into the selection of suitable funds using multi-criteria decesion making methods and the optimization of the portfolio constructed from them. The selection is made using the ELECTRE III method, which works with the weights of the criteria determined by the Saaty method. The mean-semivariance model is applied to the six selected exchange-traded funds. Also, a modified version of the mean-semivariance model is proposed and applied. It is extended to express the investor's attitude towards sustainability. The approach is to determine the semivariance and to set a minimum rate of return requirement for the part of the portfolio composed of strictly sustainable exchange-traded funds. Two types of investors are considered in the portfolio search using the modified mean-semivariance model, according to their attitude towards sustainability. Portfolios reflecting the preferences of both considered investors are found on the drawn efficient frontiers.
