The issue of humanizing prisoners and working with incarcerated persons from the wills of the prison staff

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou humanizace věznic a prací s vězněnými osobami z pohledu personálu věznice. Cílem je poskytnout hlubší porozumění vězeňské kultuře a subkulturám, zkoumat dopady neoliberalismu na fungování věznic a identifikovat výzvy, s kterými se personál setkává, včetně syndromu vyhoření a spokojenosti s prací. Práce rovněž zkoumá vliv různých profesních rolí, jako jsou psychologové, speciální pedagogové a vychovatelé na proces humanizace ve vězení. Jejím základem je kvalitativní výzkum, který obsahuje polostrukturované rozhovory s personálem a analýzu dat těchto rozhovorů. Díky tomu poskytuje cenné náhledy na to, jak je humanizace ve věznicích vnímána a jaké jsou její klíčové aspekty a výzvy. Práce zdůrazňuje význam podpory a rozvoje českého personálu a předkládá návrhy na zlepšení praxe v oblasti humanizace ve vězeňství. Tato práce tak přispívá k širší diskusi o reformě vězeňství a nabízí směry pro budoucí výzkum této oblasti.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of humanization of prisons and work with prisoners from the perspective of prison staff. The aim is to provide a deeper understanding of prison culture and subcultures, examine the effects of neoliberalism on prison functioning, and identify challenges faced by staff, including burnout and job satisfaction. The thesis also examines the influence of various professional roles, such as psychologists, special educators and educators, on the process of humanization in prison. It is based on qualitative research, which includes semi-structured interviews with staff and data analysis of these interviews. As a result, it provides valuable insights into how humanization is perceived in prisons and what its key aspects and challenges are. The thesis emphasizes the importance of support and development of Czech staff and presents proposals for improving the practice in the field of humanization in the prison system. This thesis thus contributes to a broader discussion on prison reform and offers directions for future research in this area.
