Socio-economic status of Turkish immigrants in Germany with regard to generational differences

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá tématem migrace tureckých imigrantů za prací do Německa po smlouvě v Bad Godesbergu v roce 1961. Jejím hlavním cílem je porovnat první a druhou generaci těchto imigrantů a sledovat, jak se podařilo německé vládě integrovat turecké imigranty do většinové společnosti. První kapitola je úvodem do celé problematiky turecké imigrace a popisuje její historické pozadí, vliv udělení německého občanství, vstupní podmínky pro přijetí, strukturu příchozích imigrantů a jejich postavení na trhu práce. Druhá kapitola sleduje a analyzuje sociální a ekonomické aspekty turecké minority – konkrétně vzdělání, genderové rozdíly, situaci na trhu práce, zaměstnanost, mzdy a podnikatelské aktivity. Třetí kapitola se pak zaměřuje na predikci dalšího vývoje, zhodnocení vládních opatření zaměřených na minimalizaci sociálních a ekonomických rozdílů v dalších letech a též na vliv pandemie Covid 19 na tureckou minoritu.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the topic of Turkish migration to Germany for work after the Bad Godesberg Treaty in 1961. The main aim is to compare the first and the second generation of these immigrants and to explore how the German government managed to integrate Turkish immigrants into the majority society. The first chapter is an introduction to the whole issue of Turkish immigration and describes its historical background, the impact of the granting of German citizenship, the entry conditions for admission, the structure of the incoming immigrants and their position in the labour market. The second chapter explore and analyses the social and economic aspects of the Turkish minority - specifically education, gender differences, labour market situation, employment, wages, and entrepreneurial activities. The third chapter then focuses on predicting future developments, assessing government measures aimed at minimising social and economic disparities in the years to come and the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on the Turkish minority.
