Position of the Book in the Digital Era

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce nazvaná „Postavení knihy v digitální éře“ se zabývá současnou vývojovou fází knihy, a to z hlediska její hmotné podoby (nikoliv obsahu) a v kontextu s již delší čas probíhajícími diskusemi na téma nahraditelnosti či nenahraditelnosti knihy. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí – kniha jako objekt a kniha jako funkce. V první je představena nová podoba knihy jako „plastová kniha technologické éry“, kterou představuje čtečka a elektronická kniha v ní obsažená. Popisem postupné transformace tištěné informace v informaci elektronickou, od vzniku elektronické knihy až po vývoj elektronického inkoustu a papíru, jsou následně odkrývány výhody i nevýhody, které s sebou tato přeměna pro obě podoby knihy, tištěnou i elektronickou, přináší. Následující část, kniha jako funkce, poté rozebírá možnosti, které změna objektu přinesla funkci knihy. Poukázaním na výhody a nevýhody, možnosti a přednosti jak tištěné knihy, tak i její nové elektronické, potažmo plastové podoby, byla představena nejpravděpodobnější budoucnost knihy jako média záznamu, uchování a šíření informací. Tou je společná existence tištěné a elektronické knihy, které se vzájemně doplňují.

Abstract:

Thesis titled “Position of book in the digital era” deal with the current development phase of the book, namely in light of its physical form (not content) and in the context of longer time ongoing discussions on the topic of substitutability or irreplaceability of the book as a medium for recording, storing and disseminating information. The work is divided into two parts - the book as object and the book as function. In the section devoted to the book as object, is introduced a new form of the book as “plastic book of the technological era” which is presented by an e-reader and an e-book in it. The description of the gradual transformation of printed information into electronic information, from the emergence of electronic books to the development of electronic ink and paper, the work reveals the advantages and disadvantages that come with this change for both forms of book, printed and electronic. The following section, the book as function, then discusses the options which change of the object brought to the function of book. In detail are discussed the complex challenges of copyright protection, or vice versa possibilities of electronic books in libraries or in the educational system. Pointing to the advantages and disadvantages, possibilities and benefits of both - printed books and its new electronic form, was presented the likeliest future of the book as medium for recording, storing and disseminating information. It is the coexistence of printed and electronic book, which are mutually complementary.
